art projects are those done by people who are not artists who are doing an art project, artists do projects.
mother tongue collaborators
February 17, 2006Chuan Liu and Eric Bateson are meeting with me today to look at F1 and F2 extraction in the spectograph in real time.
Liu has been working so hard to get this to work in real time.
Eric is so brilliant. First of all we were sampling at 4400 and the human voice only goes into the 5000 range so we downsample to 11,000 saving lots of computational space.

Pasting a Word Document that has lots of info
February 14, 2006I’m too sexy for my blog
76,000 blogs a day
Blogger and moveable type need to code to change colour and insert logo
Online publishing for everyone
But do we have to look the same as everyone that does it.
Use standard template and tweak a bit. A major thing?
Customizing look of blog will have a great payoff but most difficult part of the creative process in blogging.
Branding reputation, identity, tone, credibility, personality,
Content functionality design
Nice presentation – mostly images on the powerpoint – not words or designer words.
Look at blogs and see which designs work for you. Take notice of designs that work etc.

The container that you post to everyday is the same everyday – consistency with how the thing works although content changes.
Same set of elements in every blog

Header image
Does the header go into the template through html??
Plug it into the top of your blog template?
Generate a jpeg or a gif – and get someone to code it into the template for you.
Show things can do in templates
WordPress presentation design
More options with wordpress
Standard themplate can customize header through interface on some themes

Long tail – when inventory storage and distribution is cheap you can sell less popular items – record store would carry 40,000 items, but itunes has infinite shelfspace – long tail. Entering a world of abundance better for us, and a larger market for music that is not only hit drive.
Emergence of a musician middle class.
Future
Record companies form a brand around artists.

people who program blog software
February 14, 2006So I asked Matt who is very sweet and wrote WordPress how to upload images. I wondered if the blog is hosted by WordPress if that makes posting images difficult as it was with Blogger back in the day. But he said it shouldn’t be a problem. He did tell me that after I hit upload I have to drag and drop the image into the body of my post. Where in the codec (help for WordPress) does it mention dragging and dropping? He said it should be in the codec. So here goes I will upload an image of an apartment I have for rent which actually is already rented. ![]()

Community Building with Blogs
Nice session, circle seating, very little chat by facilitators.
Patterns of communities and how they are supported and enabled by blogs
aggregate blogs
links between blogs and the communities that emerge
linking with different communities, crossing lots of cultures both ethnic, background, age group etc.
making connections with people through blogs and meeting in person is good. (better than just meeting?? apparently some people have such good memories that they remember all about the person from reading their blog when they meet them)
Making links with people all over.”Writing yourself into existence”
Blogs build up networks of people in same geographical commonality, also other commonalities like hobbies and interests.
Shift from facades, creating identities to the up close and personal nature of blogging.
To keep from being overwhelmed people have a small community of bloggers they keep up with or go into the future with – through RSS feeds- and then the core group is extended through RSS.
Some people found the extended community more rewarding.
Kevin Marks Technorati
friendships, personal and business communities
process of invitation an important part – invite yourself and getting invited.
The RSS feed is invisible – the topic is the only connection not the person.
Someone from Edmonton has a blog called Web 2.0 Central and he likes bridging the online community to the live community.
Community is different than interlinking blogs, seek to understand the person on the other side of the blog.
Powerful part is access to individual experts and access to future thoughts of people by adding their blog to your RSS feed (don’t have to search)
…Conversation amplifier – “I have a blog shall I give you the url blah blah, conversation stifler”
Adding blogs to forum based community – richness of blogs add to the community experience – voice of the person through the blog.
More contained experience, very brief encounters, ephemeral, micro communities.
